n. pl. sym·po·si·ums or sym·po·si·a (-z-)

  1. A meeting or conference for discussion of a topic, especially one in which the participants form an audience and make presentations.
  2. A collection of writings on a particular topic, as in a magazine.
  3. A convivial meeting for drinking, music, and intellectual discussion among the ancient Greeks.

The Mars Hill Symposium began as most things should…  smoking cigars over a fire in the company of friends.  I had flown up with my Father to visit my Godfather for a week, and we spent at least half of it discussing a wide variety of topics.  Some religious, some psychological, some personal, some technology oriented.  Indeed, the variety itself was astounding enough, as it is a rare find to discover friends knowledgable in such a wide variety of topics… but it was the content that had me thinking.

"Here are two gentleman that should have their voices heard!" I thought to myself.  Yet how many people can one directly touch with such fireside chats?  Yet through the power of the internet, our voices can be exponetially magnified to reach throughout the world.

The Symposium is not a place for closeminded discussion.  We are here to share our knowledge with you all, and in return we ask that you share your own.  Many of the topics covered here are obscure and eclectic, but we have done our best to catalog references… though sadly many remain offline.  We hope you enjoy your time here, and perhaps learn something as well.

A warning to those of ill intent.  Though we treasure open discourse and discussion, mindless trolls or personal attacks will not be tolerated.  Please abide by the spirit of free discourse, so that we all might prosper and grow through this endeavor.
